I am back!
Been gone for a little bit (again). Needed a break to rejuvenate for the upcoming insanity that is the summer time. Since I’m a writer, vlogger, coordinator, singer, etc. I need to take a lot of down time when I can, so I just decided that May was going to be that time. But I am back and ready to go with some AMAZING product finds for you. Let’s get to it!
About 6-7 months ago, I began to hear about a product called the Rimmel London “Apocalips” from many of my UK friends. They were raving about this lip lacquers and were asking me if I had them out here in the US. Repeatedly, my answer was a disappointing yet resounding “NO!”. I was pretty bummed about it because I wanted to experience the amazingness that was the “apocalips”, but damn that international marketing.
Well, FINALLY, the US has been gifted with these wonderful little treats. They are the exact same product, but instead of being called “Apocalips”, they are called “Show Off”; which to be honest, I’m pretty bummed about the name change. But to make up for it, the US collection consists of 14 gorgeous shades, while the UK collection consists of 8. Of the 14 shades, I purchased (yes, with my own money) 12 of them. So let’s get the party started!
At first glance, I can tell you that the colors in this new collection are very pretty!
I purchased mine at Walgreens for $4.99 each. I haven’t seen them anywhere else (as of yet), so if you want to buy them, hit up your local Walgreens. I believe they are also on drugstore.com as well.
As I mentioned before, I got 12 of the 14 available shades, so I am going to break them down into 2 groups of 6:
The packaging is very unique and is actually a very good tell as to whether someone has opened the product prior to your purchase. Allow me to demonstrate.
Below is a new & completely sealed lip lacquer:
When you first open the product, the section just below the mouth of the tube should be completely product-free (as seen below):
As you begin to remove the wand from the tube, the product begins to disperse within that previously clear area:
Once the wand is out, that ENTIRE area will be filled with product:
THIS is your biggest tell as to whether someone has tampered with these lip products and didn’t purchase them. If the seal is broken, but that section is still clear, I’d say you’re free to purchase it; but if the seal is broken AND the product is dispersed, then I’d pass and try to find another one.
These lip lacquers are very smooth in application, highly pigmented, and are rather long-lasting (at least on me). They do come off while eating, drinking, etc., but re-application shouldn’t be an issue for a product that is the bargain price of $4.99.
Another downside — they also transfer onto your teeth quite easily, but that is not a deal breaker for me and, I’m sure, for others too.
Overall, I am quite pleased with my purchase, I mean come on, they’re $4.99! I just have to watch the lip biting. Don’t want to be caught with a dirty smile!
What do you think? Will you be purchasing any of these lip lacquers? What are your favorite shades? Leave a comment below!
PROS: affordable, great color selection, smooth application, high pigmentation, buildable, cute packaging.
CONS: weird smell (not bad), high transfer, easy to get on your teeth, a tad streaky.
Until next time. Stay lovely,
